In Tune

Bev Grant recorded In Tune on her nephew Michael Harrison's MAH Records company in Portland, Oregon, where Bev grew up. The rhythm tracks were recorded in Portland, with Michael on keys, Tim Ellis on guitars, Israel Annoh on percussion and trap drums. Bev then brought the tracks to New York, where her current back up band at the time overdubbed their contributions. Talata Reeves and Pat Bailey sang backup vocals. Maria Breyer (who had formerly played with the Human Condition) played percussion, Gene Hicks (from the early Human Condition band) added accordion and strings, Barry Kornhauser played bass, and Richard Bryant contributed the harmonica tracks. The album was then mixed back in Portland and released in 1994.

Lyrics — I Can't Stand My Job

by Bev Grant

Go to work everyday, like most of us do.
Just countin’ the hours til the day be through.
I’ve got one boss says this, one boss says that.
Got me running circles while they sit there getting fat.

I can’t stand my job (3x)

I’ve been working for years at the job that I do.
You’d think I’d get some respect for knowing a thing or two.
But the boss don’t like a worker who thinks on her own.
He just wants someone to yes’m and do just as she’s told.

I can’t stand my boss (3x)

There’s one thing I know. I can take but so much.
When it starts getting to me, I put my foot on the clutch.
There’s some battles worth fightin’, some things to defend,
But if you feel like I do, it’s time for that job to end.

I quit that old job. Got a new one today.

Picked up my check and a week’s vacation pay.
My co-workers tell me, they think I’m so brave.
They’ve been stuck for so long, change makes them afraid.
